What is a Registered Dietitian and how can they help me?
Nutrition is a fundamental part of a healthy lifestyle, and meeting with a registered dietician can help you create a realistic plan that integrates with your life. Our Dietitian Vanessa Brown has a background in Nutrition and Kinesiology, holding Bachelor degrees in both. With a passion for people, nutrition and exercise, she works to create small, manageable changes that result in a healthier, longer-lasting lifestyle.
Benefits of meeting with a Dietitian:
Client can be reassured that the information they are receiving is science based and accurate. We are great myth-busters!
It can help remove uncertainly and confusion around a lot of the contradicting information found on the web
We can help to create behavior change in a sustainable way, leading to long term improved health outcomes
We are people too, not the food police! Most Dietitians have an inclusive approach- including options for care versus restricting foods as this can be rigid and have negative impacts on our relationship with food.
3 facts about Dietitians:
We have to complete a 1 year (unpaid) internship, in addition to our schooling (minimum 4 year university degree)
The title "Registered Dietitian" is protected in Canada - meaning RDs report to a College and are required to practice safe, ethical and evidence-based information - This can vary greatly from others in the health/nutrition field with titles other than "RD"
Our title is spelled "Dietitian" not "Dietician"; even though the C sounds better and makes more sense!
